What Makes me Apprehensive about Public Speaking
When I took the personal report test on public speaking anxiety I didn't feel to wierd but actually really normal about my speech anxiety. I was too scared to add up my score... I will do it soon, hint hint, lots of fives. I enjoyed the breathing exercises that were prescribed. I am going to try and meditate before my next speech. I also am going to stand by the," Strategies for Building your Confidence"Starting speech preparation early will most likley be the key for me. As in life I believe most things that can be started early, in this case school work, should be. I liked the helps to do during my speech. Usually if I am doing a small speech , I feel like time really is going slowly, in my mind I can't hear myself talking and I feel like I am sluring all my words. I get really sweaty and my vision is blurry. I am going to have to confidently focus on the listeners. The illusion of transparency really gets to me. I feel like everyone can see the redness in my face because I am turning beet red. I am also going to remember to tell no one that I am nervouse, especially not myself!!!! But my favorite topic learned from chapter two was "THE SPOTLIGHT EFFECT...."I am confident that people will be observing me during my speech but not as careful as I think. Except for my instructor of course. Thanks for listening!!!!!

I also enjoyed the breathing exercises as well. I agree with you in that starting early with school work and other things is key in being successful. I don't get really sweaty when I'm in front of my crowds, nor my vision gets blurry but I do turn beet red, most times. I think with this class, will all be on the same boat, in how we feel about public speaking. One reason I picked this class because I thought I would too meet people who also feel the same way about giving speeches and being in front of people. I never focus on my listeners, rather I focuse all my attention on my the teacher because I feel that it's only that one person who really cares about my speech. You shouldn't be scared to add up your score! :) I'm sure everyone in this class will succeed. We just have to believe in ourselves. Bye!
ReplyDeleteHello PR Student! You mentioned something that will help out most students in this class: breathing! People tend to underestimate breathing. Take a few deep breaths right before you get up there to speak and you should do just fine. I can't guarantee that you won't be anxious, but it will certainly help. Keep in mind that each and every student in the class is in the same boat that you are. :)
