Respond to the ideas in the videos/ What did you learn that could be helpful in your speech?
As I prepare my outline the more information I receive about introductions and conclusions the more its helping me to broaden my thought process. In videos; 9.1 and 9.2, I learned that my introduction must have a solid attention getter and preview my main points in a clean and concise manner. A solid introduction is the foundation of my speech, if I can start of well I can finish well. Also that a solid conclusion will leave my audience feeling positive about my speech and they will recognize my close. It is also necessary to reinforce the purpose of my speech to leave a lasting effect. I enjoyed watching the speech about techno music, I noticed that the speaker really new his material and only looked at this note cards once. He also reviewed his speech during his conclusion. I liked Janine’s use of her camera as a prop. It reminded the audience easily about the basis of her speech. Overall I am looking forward to using theses speech tips and examples to better present my next speech.

I agree that the information we are getting about introductions and conclusions could not come at a better time, considering our outlines are due later this week. I like how you compared the introduction to being the foundation of your speech, and how well you evaluated each speech. You proved good points about how Evan only looked at his note cards once, and Janine's prop use. The prop is very effective especially in the introductions. Overall, I liked a lot of the points that you made and agree with what most of you said. The introduction and the conclusion are what hold up your speech, and if they are unreliable then you are going to be in a lot of trouble.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that we are learning about the introduction and conclusion as well. We are almost going to start our second public speech and now I am glad I at least know how to effectively deliver a beggining and end. I am still working on my attention getter though. I saw from your other post you are going to be discussin human traffickin which I am very interested in. I watched a movie called "Taken" and it was about human trafficking. I was so disturbed by the facts that woman were be forced to be sex slaves. I could have never imagined that this was a big problem. I recentl found out that San Francisco was the biggest city in the nation with the highest rate of human trafficking. This is a little depresing, but I am glad you will be sharing this big conflict to the class.
ReplyDeleteYeah all this information from the videos are really helpful. Especially since I am a visual learner it helps me out a lot when go over them and then it makes it easier for me when I prepare my outline and speech. I think it is really helpful when they show examples of speeches and I have to they are realistic. I have noticed that some of them are not realistic I feel like they are fake. Overall the videos are pretty much a great asset for the class; especially with what should be in the introduction and conclusion of a speech.
